JARS & JUGS

Laura C. Wright

OPENING RECEPTION:
Thursday, May 5th, 8pm-10pm

EXHIBITION DATES:
Thursday, May 5th- Friday, May 27th, 2005

Part personal narrative and part social commentary, Laura C. Wright’s new works achieve a range of complex reactions. Sewn constructions hang, surround, and cover found objects and cast-offs. Wright plays with the notion of these anthropomorphic items – tools and vessels including jars, jugs, and bottles - and she uses them as a fertile creative and metaphorical ground. Together the works serve as a common axis around which bar dwellers can find answers to their social tensions and emotional woes.

Jars & Jugs is intended to provide the Lower Level’s customers with a fulfilling experience. Whether they have come to laugh, talk politics, feel guilty for drinking instead of doing something “healthy”, need to communicate to others, or just see a nice set of jugs, it is Laura’s hope that this work gives them an unexpected boost.

Laura C. Wright received her MFA from the University of Washington in 2004 and her BFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996. Her work has been exhibited at COCA's 2004 Northwest Annual, The Henry Art Gallery MFA Thesis Show, Fiber Arts Magazine, the Jacob Lawrence Gallery, Steve Martin Studio Gallery, and in late May she will be exhibiting at the G. Gibson Gallery.
