Upcoming at the Lower Level Gallery

The Lower Level announces the next show in its series of exhibitions. Rob Johnson’s Bulletproof opens on November 13th, 2003 remaining on view until January 2nd, 2004.

Rob Johnson has created 10 chrome, brass plated, sandblasted, and painted constructions for Bulletproof. His sculptural forms deconstruct and re-contextualize the gun. Decommissioned weaponry, attained through a relationship with Washington State law enforcement, is transformed from functional object into abstract sculpture.

The weapons, like those that may have carried them, have been shaped and altered by the environment, an environment that can be unmercifully harsh. They may be scarred, polished, crushed, smoothed, worn down, discarded, and broken. They carry with them the cumulative evidence of environmental influence.
